What's Happening

MIDWEEK BIBLE STUDY

Begins Wednesday, September 7, 11:00 a.m. & 6:00 p.m., Social Hall

"I believe." These two words are among the most meaningful words any person can utter. The Apostles' Creed has shaped and guided Christian faith for almost two thousand years. But do we know what is really means–and how it applies to us today? In this study, Pastor David will walk line-by-line through each section of the Creed, revealing its rich truths. The Apostles' Creed is an often-overlooked treasure that contains the power to shape us for vibrant and steadfast living, equipping believers to live faithfully in today's culture. For more information, please contact Jan Kennamer Hart at (205) 871-7324 or jkennamerhart@dawsonchurch.org.

September Memory Verse

Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died–more than that, who was raised–who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Romans 8:33–34

PASTOR DAVID CELEBRATES 5 YEARS

On September 1, 2017, Dawson welcomed Dr. David Eldridge as our Senior Pastor. Pastor David has a shepherd's heart and takes great joy in caring for the people of this church. From the moment he began at Dawson, Pastor David has been committed to consistently pray for our congregation, prepare faithful expositional sermons that apply God's word to everyday life, and faithfully abide in Christ through studying Scripture and spending time in prayer.

Pastor David's greatest passion is ministry through the word of God. This is evident in all that he does, most notably, through his preaching and teaching of the Bible, small group discipleship, and his desire to see lives transformed by the Gospel. Pastor David is a skilled leader who maintains a strong work ethic. His greatest joy is spending time with his wife, Danielle, and their three sons, Hayden, Luke, and Jonathan. We are grateful for Pastor David's five years of leadership, service, and ministry to God and to our church family. Congratulations Pastor David and thank you for your faithfulness!

LEARNING CENTER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Learning Center is a Dawson ministry seeking to break the generational cycle of poverty in Birmingham through adult education. We are working with individuals to earn a GED, learn to read, develop life and computer skills, and share the Gospel every step of the way. We have several volunteer opportunities available as we kick-off our Fall semester.

  • Instructors and Substitutes: Our program operates like a school so we need instructors who can teach our students the subject matter of the GED. You don't have to be an educator. (We have engineers teaching Math, nurses teaching Science, and people who like to read teaching reading!) If you'd be interested in stepping into the classroom or substituting on occasion rather than teaching weekly, we would love to equip you to do that.
  • It's hard to learn on an empty stomach so we provide meals for our students throughout the day. If you, your Life Group, or a group of friends would be interested in providing a meal, we can send you more information.

Lord willing, we will be working with approximately 35 students this semester, encouraging them towards earning their degrees and helping them see what God has planned for them - for their good and His glory. We would love to have you join us!
