Acts 13–14
This week, Pastor David brought a message from Acts 13–14. Picking up on the series we started in January that began our journey through the book of Acts, we were reminded that:
- Jesus Gave the Great Commission (Acts 1:8)
- The Early Proclamation of the Gospel Was Up Against Deity Worship
- The Idols of Today Still Try to Rival God for Our Worship
GOING DEEPER:
- Pastor David shared that as the messengers spread out from Jerusalem (Acts 1:8), Paul used a diverse strategy to reach people with the truth of the Gospel. Why is a diverse strategy for sharing the Gospel important for us in our cultural context as well?
- In Lystra, Barnabas and Paul were mistakenly identified as Greek/Roman gods, and the crowd began to worship the apostles. The crowds confused the message with the messenger and distorted the Gospel. However, it gave Paul the opportunity to share the good news in a way that reached the crowd. What circumstances in your life can become platforms for you to share the Gospel with your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers?
- One of the ways we share the Gospel with those who do not believe in their sinfulness or live under the authority of Scripture is to find something that is common ground or a common experience. How can you change your schedule this week to make more time to pray for opportunities to share about the hope you have in Jesus? Who are you praying for specifically?
- Pastor David reminded us that over time our idols will implode on us. They can’t carry the weight we place on them. What are the idols you tend to cherish? How can you pray for God’s Spirit to crush the idols that have captivated your mind’s attention and your heart’s affection?
The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24–26
