For God So Loved The World
John 3:16
This week, Pastor David started a new Advent series. In the message, he encouraged us to:
- Look Up and Marvel
- Look Within and Discern
- Look to Him and Behold
GOING DEEPER:
-
Pastor David shared that John 3:16 begins with two words: For God. These two words encourage us to look up and marvel. Without exception, God is there, always the one constant, the source of all, the Creator of all. He is the Lord of Heaven and Earth, and the entire universe declares His majesty. When have you experienced God and His glory in the canvas of creation?
-
"For God" is also an invitation to look within. There is an innate sense of morality that points us to something/someone beyond us (Romans 2:15). How have you found this truth in your life?
-
Pastor David encouraged us to look to God and discover these attributes: He is self- sustaining, He is infinite, and He is holy. Which one of these attributes amazes you the most in this season of your life? How does your sinfulness become perfectly clear in the light of these truths about the glory of our God?
-
God’s greatness and holiness would not be good news to us if we stop with the first two words. It is only good news when we add the next four words: For God so loved the world. The One who formed us is for us. He possesses an unquenchable love for His creation. He is not disappointed in you, mad at you, frustrated with you, or done with you. He is on a mission to save us from ourselves; a Rescuer has come! How can you change your schedule this week to make more time for both praise and confession in light of this good news?
