The Greatest Story Ever Told
This week, Pastor David shared from the Gospel of Luke about the birth of Jesus, in other words, "The Greatest Story Ever Told". He showed us:
- The Setting
- The Characters
- The Meaning
GOING DEEPER:
- Christmas is a time that we gather around great, enduring stories that captivate our imagination. At the heart of Christmas is the Greatest Story Ever Told, a story that divides our calendar and revolutionizes our lives, cities, states, and the world. What books/stories does your family tell and re-tell during the Christmas season?
- Pastor David shared that one of the temptations we often have at Christmas is to reduce the Greatest Story Ever Told to just one story among many during the season. Jesus can become just one of many characters that we celebrate. The birth of Jesus is not just one story among others; it is THE true story that defines all of reality. How do you help your family and friends stay focused on the True Story of Christmas?
- Even though Luke does not give us all the details we would like to know about the birth of Jesus, he focuses on the most important thing: the meaning of the manger. There is no more astonishing claim in all of human history than that the infinite, eternal son of God would take on frail human flesh. Every part of the nativity story was carefully orchestrated by God; nothing was accidental. How can you spend more time this week reflecting on the true meaning of Jesus in the manger?
- Pastor David shared that Jesus being born in a lowly manger is a reminder that Jesus came for everyone, everywhere– for those who are down and out and brokenhearted and for those who seemingly have it all together with all that life offers at their fingertips. God the Father made a statement for all the world to see that Jesus is the Savior of the world. How does this truth give you hope as you face the new year? Who do you need to share this truth with?
The grace of the LORD Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. ~ 2 Corinthians 13:14
