The Parable Of The Good Samaritan
Luke 10:25–37
This week, Pastor David continued his sermon series, Stories That Still Speak. In this message about the Parable Of The Good Samaritan, he asked two questions:
- Do You See Your Need?
- Do You See Your Call?
GOING DEEPER:
• Pastor David challenged us to recognize ourselves in this parable that still speaks to us today. We are the ones who have been beaten, battered, and left for dead by the bandits of sin in this world. Describe your thoughts and feelings regarding seeing yourself in this passage.
• The good news of the Gospel is not just that anyone stopped for us but rather someone showed mercy to us. Jesus (the Greater Samaritan) came to us while we were dead in our sins and paid for our salvation with his entire life (Romans 5:8). When we realize just how helpless we are to save ourselves, then we can we truly know just how much He loved us. How do you need to change your schedule this week to make more time for reflection on and praise for God’s great love for you?
• Pastor David shared that this parable still speaks to us regarding our call. Jesus told His hearers (and also tells us): “You go and do likewise.” Jesus described our neighbor as anyone God has put us in the position to meet. We give evidence that we are recipients of God’s love and mercy by looking out for opportunities to serve others by having eyes of compassion and a willingness to get involved from a heart of love. Where is God calling you to serve others in His name? As you reflect on this story, is there a new area of ministry that God is calling you to explore?
