The Parable Of The Rich Fool
Luke 12:13–21

This week, Pastor David continued his sermon series, Stories That Still Speak. In this message about the Parable Of The Rich Fool, he expanded on two points:

  • Greed distorts our relationship with others.
  • Greed distorts our relationship with reality.

GOING DEEPER:

• Pastor David shared that greed always distorts our vision of others. Jesus’ parable illustrated that the man’s attention was only on himself, instead of being generous with others. He had earthly wealth but was spiritually poor. What circumstances, burdens, or hurts in your life push you to be more focused on yourself than others?

• Greed always turns our gaze inward and distorts our reality. Pastor David explained that the key to freeing us from the prison of greed is remembering that all we have is a gift from God. We are created in the image of a generous God. In what ways are you reflecting God’s generosity to others?

• Pastor David encouraged us to be generous with our financial resources. Be generous givers because the alternative is foolishness. How can you look for more ways to faithfully steward your financial resources no matter how large or small?

• Jesus is right; He always is. He said: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Luke 12:34) True generosity is accompanied by the aroma of Heaven, and greed is accompanied by the stench of hell. Are you living an open-handed life or a close-fisted life with the gifts God has entrusted to you?
