Sermon Title: The First Murder
Scripture: Genesis 4
This week, Blake Jenkins, Dawson’s Minister to College Students, shared a message from Genesis about the first murder. Specifically, he noted:
- Motive Matters
- Revenge Kills
- Grace Covers
Going Deeper:
1. When are you tempted to think that your external circumstances and challenges are your only problems, instead of realizing your greatest problem is actually the sin within you? Explain.
2. Hebrews 11:4 says that God had regard for Abel and his offering, which he gave in faith. Cain's offering, in contrast, was given out of a heart of duty. How would you characterize your worship—more like Cain's or Abel's?
3. Blake Jenkins shared that Cain’s mother, Eve, had to be talked in to sinning (Genesis 3) while Cain could not be talked out of sinning (Genesis 4: 6–8). What sin(s) are you harboring in your heart? In what ways are you trying to hide your sin from God? How can you make time each day for confession and repentance?
4. How does God extend His grace, not only to cover Cain’s sin against Abel, but also to cover all sin? Have you trusted Christ to cover your sin?
