Sermon Title: Ephesus: The Loveless Church
Scripture: Revelation 2:1–7
This week, Pastor David continued the sermon series from Revelation, looking specifically at the letters to the seven churches. In Jesus’ words to the church at Ephesus, we saw:
-
The Commendation From The Lord (vv. 2–3)
-
Jesus commends their good deeds
-
Jesus commends their doctrinal discernment
-
The Complaint From The Lord (v. 4)
-
The Command From The Lord (v. 5)
-
Remember and return
-
Repent or be removed
Going Deeper:
-
Jesus commends the church at Ephesus for their good deeds and their doctrinal discernment. What is the standard you use for discerning the true teaching of God? What is the only standard you should be measuring against?
-
Jesus’ complaint against the church at Ephesus was that they had “lost their first love.” In other words, they were not as focused on their relationship with Jesus as they had once been. Have you been guilty of that? Explain.
-
Pastor David said that when our relationship with Jesus turns cold, we have to go back to go forward. What practice(s) do you need to go back to for your relationship with Jesus to be rekindled or refreshed?
-
One of the commands of Jesus in Revelation 2:5 is to repent. Jesus loves us enough to tell us to turn around when we are going the wrong way. What do you need to change in your schedule this week to allow more time with Jesus in confession and repentance?
May the LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
