Sermon Title: The Ninth Commandment: To Tell The Truth

Scripture: EXODUS 20:16

This week, Pastor David continued the series from Exodus on The Ten Commandments with a look at the Ninth Commandment.

  1. The Pull Of Deceit
  2. The Pursuit Of Truth

Going Deeper:

  • In contrast to the cultures of the nations around them, the Israelite nation was based on God’s thorough concern for justice (Deuteronomy 19:15; Zechariah 8:16). How are you encouraged by God’s pursuit of justice?
  • We can break the ninth commandment without visiting a courtroom or even leaving home by slander, gossip, and conceit (2 Corinthians 12:20). When are you tempted to use your speech to tear others down instead of building them up?
  • Pastor David said that “As Christians, we are called to be an oasis of truthfulness and honesty in a desert of lies, rumors, and innuendos.” Can you be described as an “oasis of truthfulness”? Why or why not?
  • Honesty and truthfulness do not equal judgmentalism, harshness, and rudeness. We are called to be kind, loving, and patient. What is one way that your honesty and truthfulness can be an example of God’s trustworthiness for non-Christians around you this week?
