Acts: Herod
This week, Pastor David continued the series from Acts with a look at three scenes from the life of Herod.
Scene 1: Herod's Plot (verses 1–5)
Scene 2: God's Counter (verses 6–11)
Scene 3: God's Ultimate Victory (verses 18–25)
GOING DEEPER:
- Every compelling story has a villain, and the Bible has its share, even in the midst of God’s redemption story. The story in Acts 12 teaches us that even the greatest villains are no match for the God we worship. Describe how this has been true in your life.
- Literally hours before he believes he will be killed for his faith, we see Peter sleeping soundly. What is your response to fear and uncertainty? Are you able to be at peace knowing that God is in control of the situation? Why or why not?
- Pastor David reminded us that, even when Herod was struck down, the church remained very much alive. He shared that Acts 12:24 is a reminder that no one, no matter how powerful, is a match for our all-powerful God. How are you encouraged by this reminder that God's plan is accomplished, even when evil people are in power?
- Do you, like Herod, find yourself tempted to live as if you are the boss? What can you do this week to surrender to God's authority over your life?
