What's Happening

GIVING WITH GRATITUDE

Scripture tells us that God’s people are to shine forth as a light to the nations (Isaiah 49:6; 60:2). This is why the Church exists, and it is also why its work must be supported financially. The Church provides instruction to a local body of believers in which its members can continue to mature spiritually. One sign of spiritual maturity is exercising good stewardship with all that God has given us. Our Stewardship Emphasis for this year is called Giving With Gratitude. God’s desire to make His name, His holiness, His mighty acts, and His superior wisdom known to the inhabitants of earth is always for His glory, but also for our benefit and the benefit of others. As faithful servants of Jesus Christ, we must also recognize the importance of giving with the right kind of heart. Our Stewardship verse also emphasizes this: “For God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Please pray about your 2023 financial commitments with a heart of gratitude for your faithful giving to God through Dawson.

October Memory Verse

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.
Romans 8:35–36

CELEBRATE OUR VETERANS

Help us honor our veterans and active military at our Veterans Day Luncheon on November 11. Dawson will be celebrating in two new ways this year: with memorial flowers and a photo display. If you would like to purchase a flower in memory or honor of a veteran, the cost is $15 each. The flowers will decorate the Fellowship Hall on November 11 at our luncheon. If you would like to share a photo of a veteran that day, please bring it to the Church Office prior to November 1. We will display the pictures at the luncheon. Include on the back of the photo: 1. full name of the person, 2. branch of service/rank, 3. war(s) served in (if applicable),  and 4. specific years of service. Also, please list the person to whom the photo will be returned. For more information, contact Tommy Sanders at tsanders@dawsonchurch.org or call 205-871-7324.

SANCTUARY RENOVATION UPDATE

In light of current economic conditions and in partnership with the Dawson Finance Team, the Sanctuary and Adjacent Spaces Ad Hoc Team asked the designers to consider the possibility of constructing the Master Plan project in phases. They have presented a viable phased approach and the Ad Hoc Team is working with the designers on details of the phases, while also continuing to evaluate all other options. This phased approach, with Phase 1 being the Sanctuary and the East Commons area and Phase 2 being the West Building, will still accomplish the complete Master Plan as designed and approved by the church.

The schedule for Phase 1 will be the same as the original plan, with construction to begin in the summer of 2023.  The timing of Phase 2 is unknown at this time and will be determined by financial considerations.  The cost of Phase 1 will be firm after the contractor is selected and gives a final price. The Ad Hoc Team anticipates that will be at the first of the year, as originally presented to the church last May. Please continue to pray for the Ad Hoc Team, the designers, and the yet to be determined contractor as plans are finalized.
