When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.

What's Happening
STEWARDSHIP 2024
Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the Lord. 1 Chronicles 29:9
The people rejoiced because they had given?! Really? To understand this year’s theme verse for our stewardship emphasis, it is necessary to look at the context of the verse. King David was making preparations for his son Solomon to build the temple. David had accumulated a great amount of wealth, and he gave abundantly from all of his resources and personal treasures. Following David’s example, the people also gave generously, freely, and wholeheartedly. How were David and all of the people able to give willingly with a whole heart? They understood that all they had (and all we have) is from God. Verse 14 says, “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” (NIV)
When my husband and I were first married, we tithed out of obedience but not with a whole heart. In a Bible study several years later, we studied these same verses from 1 Chronicles. We learned that all we have comes from God and belongs to Him. We are simply stewards. God has given us not just material and financial gifts but also the free gift of grace and salvation. When we grasp how much God has lavished upon us, then we, like David and the Israelites, can freely offer our gifts back to Him.

Together in Giving & Serving
Each year, Dawson elects faithful servants within the church family to serve a three-year term on the Board of Deacons. This year, three of those elected members will be ordained. The service will take place in the Chapel at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22. Please join us for a time of celebration and commitment. Please contact Donna Allan at dallan@dawsonchurch.org by Tuesday, October 17 if childcare is needed.

Thanks to the power of a simple shoebox, millions of children will hear the Gospel this year. Stop by the table in the Foyer to pick up a brochure and a flat shoebox beginning Sunday, October 15. You can also pick up brochures and boxes at the Church Office on weekdays. All prepared shoeboxes must be turned in at the display table in the Sanctuary Foyer on or before November 12.

Every year, Dawson members and Life Groups provide Christmas gifts for over one hundred children. This year is no exception; however, the ministry details have changed to be able to provide for more children. Here are the details:
- This year, children from our Kids Connection ministry will be the recipients of your newly purchased gifts.
- There will be 13 different size and age-group lists for you to consider.
- These shopping lists will be located in the Sanctuary Foyer beginning Sunday, October 1.
- Simply follow the instructions on your list and return the new gifts to the Gathering Room (1st Floor North) anytime from October 1–November 30.
Please note that multiple children may receive the items you purchase instead of a single individual. For more information, contact Ben Hale at bhale@dawsonchurch.org.

At Dawson, we believe church membership matters. That’s why we have created a new opportunity for all new members and guests called Membership Matters. This two-hour class provides a chance for us to share the heart of who Dawson is. We will take a close look at our vision & mission statements, our Doctrinal Foundation, and ongoing discipleship and mission opportunities available for all members to become involved. The next Membership Matters class is Sunday, October 29 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please register HERE. Reservations are required and preschool childcare is available upon request.

Please join us in celebrating our veterans and active military personnel at a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall on Thursday, November 9 at 11:30 am. Veterans and their spouses, as well as active military personnel and their spouses, will be guests of Dawson at the luncheon. Nonveterans are also invited, and the cost of a ticket is $10. Reservations are required and can be made at the North Building Reception Desk. Darrell Piatt, a Dawson member, is our speaker, the Samford Honor Guard will present colors, and Brent Coleman will direct the Pizitz Girls’ Choir for our entertainment. The reservation deadline is Sunday, November 5.
You can help celebrate Veterans Day this year with a flower in memory or honor of a veteran and a photo. The flowers can be purchased at the North Building Reception Desk for $15 and will be used for decoration at our Veterans Day luncheon—you may take the plant home after the event. To share a photo of a veteran that day, please bring it to the Church Office prior to November 1. Pictures will be displayed by military branch. On the photo please list: the name of person; branch of service/rank; war served in (if applicable); and specific years of service.
