Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.

October Memory Verse
Together in Giving & Serving
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21
Jesus gives us a blueprint for life in the Sermon on The Mount (Matthew 5–7). His words challenge us to examine our hearts and motivations and invite us to redirect our focus towards God and His Kingdom. Jesus taught that a person’s heart truly belongs to what they treasure most. We, as disciples of Jesus Christ, are to love Him with all our heart, and guard making money and material possessions an idol by stewarding well the gifts and resources He has blessed us with. Giving generously through our church allows us to reflect on how He continually provides for us and gives us the opportunity to trust Him more. As we approach Commitment Day, let’s examine our hearts and how we view what God has given us. May we use the treasures of our lives to be obedient to Him and seek the fulfillment of His purpose in all that we do. Commitment Cards will be collected November 3 through December 31 or you can make your commitment online at dawsonchurch.org/commitment.

Each year, Dawson elects faithful servants within the church family to serve a three-year term on the Board of Deacons. This year, three of those elected members will be ordained. The service will take place in the Chapel at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 20. Please join us for a time of celebration and commitment. If childcare is needed, please contact Donna Allan at dallan@dawsonchurch.org by Wednesday, October 16.

You can help make the shop at Kids Connection a well-stocked and welcoming place for parents and caregivers. On Mondays and Wednesdays, volunteers process donations and restock shop inventory. We particularly need additional volunteers on Wednesdays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, volunteers also help the parents and caregivers select items for their families' needs. Any amount of time you can give is appreciated. The shop’s hours are 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. This is a great opportunity to serve if you are free in the morning.

Christian leaders in East Africa face great resistance and persecution for their faith. As part of a conference for these dedicated leaders, Birch and Karon Bowdre presented an Old Testament survey that focused on redemption and the foretelling of Jesus. Join us to hear the story of their experience. Come early and enjoy delicious brunch food and coffee.

Thanks to the power of a simple shoebox, millions of children will experience the love of God and hear the Gospel this year. Stop by the table in the Foyer to pick up a brochure and a flat shoebox beginning Sunday, October 20. You can also pick up brochures and boxes at the Church Office desk on weekdays. All prepared shoeboxes must be turned in at the display table in the Sanctuary Foyer on or before November 17.

Every year, Dawson members and Life Groups provide Christmas gifts for over one hundred children. This year you will have the opportunity to provide gifts for local children through Kids Connection. Children from our Kids Connection Ministry will be the recipients of your newly purchased gifts. There will be 13 different size and age-group lists for you to consider. These shopping lists will be located in the Sanctuary Foyer. Simply follow the instructions on your list and return the new gifts to the Gathering Room (1st Floor North) anytime from now until November 22. Please note that multiple children may receive the items you purchase instead of a single individual.

Together in Bible Study
Please join us as we examine some questions every Christian should ask (and answer). Pastor David and other staff members will help us discover how Scripture answers these critical questions. Some of the topics include:
- Is the Bible actually true?
- Were Adam and Eve real people?
- Can we know for sure that Jesus was raised from the dead?
- Why does a good God allow so much suffering?
- Does the Bible condone genocide?
- Does the Bible justify slavery?
- Does the Bible actually condemn same-sex relationships?

At Dawson, we believe church membership matters. Dawson’s Membership Matters Class is offered for all guests and new members. This two-hour class provides a chance for us to share the heart of who Dawson is. We will take a close look at our vision & mission statements, our Doctrinal Foundation, and ongoing discipleship and mission opportunities available for all members to become involved. The next Membership Matters class is on Sunday, October 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please register HERE. Reservations are required and lunch will be provided. Preschool childcare is available upon request.

Pack your overnight bag, card games, bible, and slippers: It’s time for CAMP! Girls in the 6th-12th grades are invited to join Dawson’s Student Ministry for a real retreat away from the busyness of the fall semester at Camp Dawson. Our prayer for this time is to provide a space for girls to grow in their relationship with Jesus, with one another, and come home rested (spiritually) through time away from the rush and worry of everyday life. Registration closes on Sunday, October 27. Please contact Ashbelle Henry for more information.

DNOW is right around the corner (January 17–19), and the DSM team is working hard to make it a meaningful and impactful weekend. During this weekend, students stay in host homes around the city, and your help is needed! We are expecting a large number of students to attend this year and want plenty of host homes to make this the best and safest opportunity for meaningful discipleship. For more information, please contact Ashbelle Henry, or visit dawsonchurch.org/students to complete an interest form. Responses are needed by November 10, 2024.
