Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.

What's Happening
TRUST & TREASURE
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” are words I knew, but only came to understand later in life. It wasn’t until I was married and took a Crown Financial class at Dawson that I began to realize a powerful truth that it’s all God’s—everything. From an early age, I knew I had a responsibility to tithe part of what was mine. That sounds ridiculous even now as I write it (mine?), but that is what I thought. Beyond that, I had no concept of tithing as a spiritual discipline. I thought tithing was a financial decision to support the ministries of our church. I now know it is so much more than that. It is a regular reminder of my dependence on my heavenly Father. It makes me understand, in all new ways, how He is Faithful and True.
This lesson is something my husband Joe and I wanted our children to learn and understand. We want them to have the comfort of knowing it is all God’s. It is truly freeing to know that nothing is ours—we are only stewards. We felt the best way to help them experience this was to give them a small monthly income in the form of an allowance. Our sole purpose was for them to learn the discipline and the blessing of tithing. It is our prayer that by doing this now, while they are young, it will become second nature and grow in spiritual maturity as they see they, too, can trust God with everything. The words of Matthew 6:21 are no longer just memorized words in my head, rather they are words that have now been understood with my heart. As commitment Sunday approaches, my prayer for all of us is that we can say unequivocally that the “Lord has my heart; He is my treasure.”

DNOW is right around the corner (January 17–19), and the DSM team is working hard to make it a meaningful and impactful weekend. During this weekend, students stay in host homes around the city, and your help is needed! We are expecting a large number of students to attend this year and want plenty of host homes to make this the best and safest opportunity for meaningful discipleship. Please visit dawsonchurch.org/students to complete an interest form or contact Ashbelle Henry for more information. Responses are needed by November 10, 2024.

Together in Missions
Thanks to the power of a simple shoebox, millions of children will hear the Gospel this year. Stop by the table in the Foyer to pick up a brochure and a flat shoebox. You can also pick up brochures and boxes at the Church Office on weekdays. All prepared shoeboxes must be turned in at the display table in the Sanctuary Foyer on or before November 17.

This year you have an opportunity to provide gifts for local children through Kids Connection. Children from our Kids Connection Ministry will be the recipients of your newly purchased gifts. Shopping lists are located in the Sanctuary Foyer. Please return the new gifts to the Gathering Room (1st Floor North) anytime from now until November 22.

Girls in the 6th-12th grades are invited to join Dawson’s Student Ministry for a real retreat away from the busyness of the fall semester at Camp Dawson. This time is for girls to grow in their relationship with Jesus, with one another, and come home rested (spiritually) away from the rush and worry of everyday life. Registration closes on Sunday, October 27.

Please join us in celebrating our veterans and active military personnel at a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall on Monday, November 11 at 11:30 a.m. Veterans and their spouses, as well as active military personnel and their spouses, will be guests of Dawson at the luncheon. Non-veterans are also invited, and the cost of a ticket is $10. Reservations are required and can be made at the Church Office. Lt. Colonel Sam Fishburne, son of Dawson member Cherry Fishburne, is our speaker. The reservation deadline is Sunday, November 3.
Photos & Flowers For Our Veterans
Help us celebrate Veterans Day this year with a flower or photo in memory or honor of a veteran. To purchase a flower, the cost is $15. (Please let us know the person you wish to honor.) These flowers will decorate the Fellowship Hall at our Veterans Day luncheon, and you may take the plant home after the event. We would also like to display a photo of your veteran for the day. Please drop your picture by the Church Office any time prior to November 4 (attn: Tommy Sanders), and put your name/phone number on the back. Enjoy the picture display at the luncheon and take the photo home with you after the event.

At Dawson, we believe church membership matters. Dawson’s Membership Matters Class is offered for all guests and new members. The next Membership Matters class is on Sunday, November 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please register HERE. Reservations are required and lunch will be provided. As part of our 100 year celebration, Dawson's Music & Worship Ministry is hosting a special Chapel Choir Reunion at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Whether you sang with us recently or decades ago, we invite you to join us for a day of fellowship, worship, and music as we celebrate our shared legacy. The afternoon will begin with a time of fellowship and a short rehearsal, followed by a group picture, singing, and worship together. We’ll end the day with a church-wide picnic featuring special musical performances. To help us prepare, we are compiling a database of all Chapel Choir Alumni. Please visit dawsonchurch.org/chapelchoirreunion for more information and stay connected, even if you are unable to attend the event. Be sure to let your friends and family who’ve been part of Chapel Choir know about this exciting reunion!
