December 1, 2024, marks 30 years of faithful service for our Hispanic Pastor, Bayron Mosquera. Originally from Ecuador, Bayron obtained his degree in Public Administration from the Central University of Quito, Ecuador. Later, he earned his Master of Divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Bayron is married to Maria, and they have two adult children, Evelyn and Byron, Jr., and a grandson, Benjamin. Bayron truly models what it means to be a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. He faithfully preaches God’s Word and pastors our Hispanic Congregation with love and care. He not only serves the members of the Hispanic congregation but unselfishly and joyfully ministers to many others in Birmingham and the surrounding area. His enthusiasm and compassion are an encouragement to many, and his faithful leadership is evident by the growth of Hispanic congregations throughout the state. We are thankful that God led Bayron to Dawson in 1994. Please join us in expressing appreciation for his 30 years of steadfast and faithful service.
Appreciated stock is a good way to contribute to the church, because capital gains taxes are not assessed. Transfer your stock electronically by contacting the church Finance Office at 205-871-7324.
Seniors Can Save Taxes with an IRA Charitable RMD
Required minimum distributions (RMDs) are the minimum amounts you must withdraw from your retirement accounts each year. Transfer your IRA assets via a tax provision which allows direct distributions to the church by April 1 following the year in which you reach age 72 (73 if you reach age 72 after Dec. 31, 2022) and by December 31 of later years. The transfer counts toward the donor’s Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), but does not increase the donor’s taxable income, thereby helping to reduce income taxes. Please talk to your tax advisor and IRA Administrator about how to make a charitable rollover.

Together in Missions
Lottie Moon was a Southern Baptist missionary in China from 1873 to 1912. Meeting so many people who had never heard the Gospel compelled her to write letters to American churches describing the need for a greater missionary presence. This challenge became known as the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Every year Dawson takes part in this special offering that supports over 4,800 missionaries appointed by our International Mission Board. A prayer guide and offering envelope will be mailed to all church members. One hundred percent of the financial gifts given to this offering are used to support our international missionaries.
